Menopause Symptoms And Weight Gain

Symptons of Menopause

Menopausal weight gain is one of those life’s stages that most women are afraid of. This is because weight gain during menopause does not only indicate that they are, indeed, aging, but also means that they cannot really control the drastic changes that their body will go through.

Women should not sink into the great pit of depression once they start to gain weight during early menopause.  The weight gain is a  symptom of menopause.  They should realize that as people age, especially women, their bodies will not have the same function as it did ten years ago.  Weight gain caused by menopause is really inevitable.

Once, women have accepted this fact, it will be easier for them to rid themselves of the depression and start thinking of ways that can help them minimize the gaining of weight.  Experts say that weight gain is one of the most common problems women in their midlife stages, 40′s and 50′s, complain about. Most of the complaints include the seemingly “uncontrollable” bulges in the hips, thighs and abdomen which can be unsightly if the women continue wearing the clothes they have in their wardrobe.

Although there is nothing much that can be done once weight gain during menopause rushes in, there are some things that can be done to minimize and totally prevent it while you are younger.

What causes weight gain in menopause?

To be able to avoid suffering from too much weight gain caused by theeffects of menopause, younger women should understand the causes behind this weight gain.  When these causes are understood, then corrective measures can be implemented.

Following are some of the causes of weight gain which younger women should be very aware of to plan how they can avoid gaining too much at the onset of menopause:

1. Lack of exercise:  This is considered the number one reason why more women experience menopausal weight gain.  As women age, studies show that they move slower due to the accumulation of fats in specific areas of their bodies.  To avoid menopausal weight gain, younger women or even those who are close to menopause, can start by increasing their daily physical exercise and plan and implement a workout specially designed for them.

2. Increased food intake:  This is also a major reason why women gain too much weight during their menopause. Experts say that as women grow older, their appetite increases resulting in higher caloric intake. Calories produce fat. The fact that physical activity has decreased leads to calories which are not being burned away with activity.

3. Inability to burn excess calories.  Studies suggest that this is a contributing factor to menopausal weight gain. Food fat is replaced with calories, which in turn, become more difficult to burn. As the fat begins to replace muscles in the body, your metabolism will run even slower resulting in more body fat.
